The splendid aroma of simmering tomatoes and fresh herbs from neighborhood cucinas defines Italy as surely as its colorful people and renowned architecture. Italy by its very nature means exquisite cooking – cooking based on a celebrated fruit, the tomato. In fact, the word for tomato in Italian, pomodoro, translates in English to “golden apple.” It's no wonder then, that Italians Cristoforo and Emma Colombo founded a company dedicated to providing the best foodservice tomato products available in the United States. After all, tomatoes are the foundation of nearly every recipe that has made Italy famous for fine cooking.
That foundation begins with a small group of dedicated growers who cultivate select tomato varieties in the fertile soil of California’s San Joaquin Valley, a region famous for its agriculture. These growers carefully nurture and harvest their tomatoes to Escalon’s exacting standards. Escalon tomatoes are always vine-ripened to a vibrant red, picked with the greatest of care and packed within hours of harvest.
Unlike competitive tomato products, citric acid (a sour-tasting preservative) is never added to any Escalon-branded product. As a result, our tomatoes and tomato sauces are tantalizing in color and so true to the sweet taste of fresh tomatoes that you will think they were just plucked from the vine.
Our Company Profile
Escalon Premier Brands is located in the rural community of Escalon in the heart of California’s San Joaquin Valley. Escalon is approximately 90 miles east of San Francisco and 70 miles south of Sacramento.
With operations expanding each year for the past nine tomato-processing seasons, Escalon Tomato Products has become the town’s largest employer, and maintains a very active role in the community.
